Back-to-back titles for Blackfriars

Reigning champion Blackfriars has more than doubled his lead on the WA sires’ premiership leading into the last quarter of the season.

Confirmation of another title coincides with news Blackfriars will stand for a $16,500 (inc gst) fee at Durham Lodge this year.  His current earnings for 2011-12 amount to $3.59 million with Verglas the next best in WA on $1.49 million.

Blackfriars (Danehill) ran for owner-breeder Robert Sangster to win the 1999 Victoria Derby.  He completed a clean sweep of the 2012 Sunspeed classics courtesy of Pop Culture (WA Oaks) and Rohan (WA Derby).

Universal Ruler (Scenic) will stand for $5,500 (inc gst).  A G3 winning sprinter in Perth, he has averaged 80 mares is his first two books at Muchae.  Mares in foal to Universal Ruler were popular in the recent sales including Wynyard Hall who sold in foal to Universal Ruler for $130,000.
