Autumn update for Gio Ponti

Incoming Arrowfield Stud shuttler Gio Ponti hardly needs a pedigree update but he got one anyway when his younger half sister Antonia Autumn won at Belmont Park on Sunday.

Gio Ponti (Tale of the Cat) won seven G1 races from 1600m to 2000m and Antonia Autumn began in the same range when she scored on debut clocking 1.34.6s for 1600m.

Antonia Autumn (3f Bernstein – Chipeta Springs by Alydar) is a homebred for Castleton Lyons and she advanced from midfield to circle the field four-wide on the home turn.  Jockey Ramon Dominguez sat down and rode her hands and heels to a comfortable two length victory in New York.

Christophe Clement trained Gio Ponti and he also prepares Antonia Autumn.  Their stakes placed dam Chipeta Springs has foaled nine winners including Belmont Listed winner Fisher Pond (A.P. Indy) and Delaware Listed winner Bon Jovi Girl (Malibu Moon).

Gio Ponti (USA) is currently serving his first mares at Castleton Lyons Farm in Kentucky.  He will cover his initial southern book at Arrowfield this spring for a $22,000 (inc gst) fee.
