Assail leads Charge to Magic Millions Classic

Arrowfield Stud sire Charge Forward maintained his dominance of this season’s early juvenile racing when Assail powered to a three length victory in the $200,000 Wyong Magic Millions 2YO Classic.

It was a seriously impressive performance as jockey Peter Robl confirmed after the race.  “She drew 12 of 12 and showed blistering speed from the start,” Robl claimed.  “She wanted to over race in the middle stages then straightened up and just put paid to them.

“She’s a very exciting filly and did it at both ends.  She’s run good time and will improve off the run.”

Assail (2f Charge Forward – Emanday by Redoute’s Choice) clocked 63.61s for the 1100 metres, the last 600m in 34.86.  Frill Seeking (Sebring) was second, less than a length ahead of Dream Forward (Charge Forward) and Certitude (Not A Single Doubt).

Trainer Clarry Conners knows a thing or three about preparing gifted youngsters and recalled inspecting her in Arrowfield’s draft at the 2012 Gold Coast Magic Millions.  “I thought she was an athletic filly in the right draft, by the right sire at the right price,” Connors said at Wyong.  “She only cost $40,000 so everything was in her favour.”

Assail was bred by the partnership of Arrowfield and Planette Thoroughbred from an unraced sister of Group 1 winner Master of Design.

She is the 11th stakes winner for Charge Forward who holds a commanding lead on the Australian 2YO premiership.  His other two juvenile stakes winners this season are Direct Charge and Crack A Roadie.
