Arrowfield sires revive Rangal Park

One of Rangal Park’s most successful families is enjoying something of a revival with the help of Arrowfield Stud young guns Snitzel and Starcraft.

Sheila’s Star (4m Snitzel – Northeast Sheila by Keltrice) is a homebred for Rangal Park owners Eric and Marlene Buttler and she has responded to a change of tactics employed by new trainer Mick Price.  Now ridden from the front, she scored a commanding three length victory in the Winning Edge Signature Hcp (1400m) at Caulfield on Saturday.

Sheila’s Star is one of 47 winners from the initial crop of Snitzel.  The Arrowfield sire has built up an astounding 77% winning strike-rate among his first crop starters.

Celebrity Girl (3f Starcraft – Dashing Granada by Keltrice) is another recent winner for the family.  She scored a first-up victory in the LR Redelva Stakes at Morphettville last month for trainer Mark Kavanagh and owners Trevor and Beth Robertson.

The dams of Sheila’s Star (Northeast Sheila) and Celebrity Girl (Dashing Granada) are sisters by Rangal Park’s evergreen sire Keltrice.  He was a G1 winner of the Lightning Stakes at Flemington and is still covering limited books at the Euroa stud.

Northeast Sheila was a precocious filly winning the LR Maribyrnong Trial at Flemington and G3 VATC Blue Diamond Preview in 1998-99.  Besides Sheila’s Star, she has foaled Eagle Farm stakes winner Jacqueline Rouge (Ne Coupez Pas) and ill-fated colt Daintree Duke (Royal Academy) who was rated one of the most promising horses in Victoria prior to his death in March 2009.

The Buttlers sent Northeast Sheila back to Arrowfield to be covered by Hussonet.  She foaled a colt in 2009 and he is now an unraced two year-old named Cast Iron in work with Greg Eurell.

Dashing Granada was a Listed winner at Flemington and she had already foaled winner by Arrowfield sires Redoute’s Choice and Hussonet before Celebrity Girl.  The mare foaled a Starcraft colt in September and was bred back to him in November.

Danehill sire Danerich is also making waves at Rangal Park.  Last Saturday’s Edenhope winner Colla Voce took his tally to 19 first-crop winners of 26 races.  Warwick Farm flyer Didntcostalot is top of the list with three wins and a stakes placing at Rosehill.
