Lomar Park stallion Arena passed two career milestones when his filly Arena Rock scored on debut at Traralgon on Tuesday.
Arena Rock (3f Arena – Goldirocks by Marscay) was her sire’s 200th individual winner and his 500th win in Australia. “That was a real good effort – she really hit the line,” jockey James Winks said after a gem of a ride. “She’s definitely up to city class.”
The Luke Oliver trained filly settled well back in the Racingnetwork Maiden Plate (1150m) before Winks angled back to the fence at the top of the straight. She sprinted through a gap between the leaders Smokey Princess and Dehere Cat and kept increasing the margin in the final 100 metres.
Arena Rock was a $15,000 buy at the 2011 Inglis Melbourne Autumn Sale and paid it back first-up with a Super VOBIS Bonus on top of the prizemoney. She is raced by Steve Brown, James Edwards, Kristy Edwards, Tony Jolley, Mal Mackay, Phil McGarry, Wayne Pearn, James Sturgess, Luke Tomkinson and Paul White
Arena (Danehill) has added some oomph to the filly’s pedigree – her dam never looked like winning in 12 starts for trainers Gary Portelli and Gwenda Markwell. His 200 winners have arrived at a 58% strike-rate.
Lomar Park currently owns top spot on the 2013 Australian yearling sale leader-board after its Fastnet Rock – Smart Company colt made $1.35 million at the Gold Coast Magic Millions.
