Another Star by Congrats

Eye-catching debut winner Tulira’s Star has been purchased by Team Valor International and will be set for the Saratoga carnival next month.

The daughter of Vinery shuttler Congrats was very impressive last Sunday at Arlington winning by more than three lengths over 900 metres.  Her time of 52.36s produced a Beyer Speed Figure of 88 which is the second-highest for juveniles in 2014.

That rating made her hot property for original owner-breeder Curtis Green and trainer Jimmy DiVito.

“We’ve sold about 90% of her shares already,” Team Valor owner Barry Irwin said.  “When let down in the stretch, she only had about six seconds to show her kick.  And the second filly La Grange looks good, too.  If she were not in the race, Tulira’s Star would have won by about 8 lengths.

“Usually when a horse hits the wire and pulls up, its legs go all over the place – but her action still continued straight-forward.  I’ve only seen that happen a few times.”

Tulira’s Star (2f Congrats – Tulira by General Assembly) is a half-sister to Churchill Downs Group 3 winner Mountain General.  She will join Team Valor’s private trainer Rick Mettee in Maryland and be set for the G3 Schuylerville Stakes on opening day at Saratoga on July 18.

Congrats (A P Indy) has sired a string of precocious two year-olds since his champion filly Turbulent Descent won the G1 Starlet Stakes at Hollywood Park in 2010.

Vinery will stands Congrats for a $22,000 (inc gst) fee this year.
