The spring carnivals can’t come quick enough for All Too Hard after his first stakes winner saluted at Doomben on Saturday.

The Vinery champion broke the black-type ribbons with Curdled who scored a head-bobbing victory in the LR Winning Edge Stakes (1350m). The Peter Robl-trained youngster prevailed by a nose following a final-furlong duel with Marseille En Fleur.

“He’s still learning and was looking around instead of attacking the line,” jockey Jim Byrne said. “He should make a nice horse when he understands what racing is all about.”

All Too Hard’s first-crop are following in his footsteps at the back-end of the season. He was a stakes winning juvenile for Team Hawkes before maturing into a Group 1 winner as a spring 3yo in the Caulfield Guineas.

There have been 3 new All Too Hard winners in the last week to take his tally to 8 overall and they’ve earned over $644,000.

Curdled is a homebred for Segenhoe Stud owner Kevin Maloney.  His dam Custard (Lonhro) won the LR Oaklands Plate in Adelaide and her earlier foals include Caulfield Group 3 winner Serene Majesty.

Maloney has been an All Too Hard supporter from Day 1.  He also bred All Too Hard’s spring prospect The Mighty Fed who won at Warwick Farm and Randwick in April.

Segenhoe spokesman Bill Mitchell said Curdled would now be spelled. “He’s a progressive horse who should develop into a better three-year-old. We will put him away and look for the right races next season.”

All Too Hard stands for a $44,000 (inc gst) fee at Vinery.
