Admiral cruises in Debutante Plate

Trainer Barry Campbell was straight out of the blocks with another brilliant two year-old at Elwick on Sunday.

Mossman gelding Admiral opened Tasmania’s juvenile season with a two length victory in the Debutante Plate (900m).  Jockey Brendon McCoull settled him off the pace behind tearaway leader Concrete Johnny before turning the youngster loose in the straight.

Campbell prepared Tasmania’s champion two year-old Grand Tycoon last season and he has a lot of time for Admiral.  “He’s a cracking type and was very impressive today.  He will get better with time, naturally.  I trained his dam and she didn’t win as a two year-old.”

Campbell works his team on the all-weather track at Spreyton and revealed the trip to Hobart was Admiral’s first gallop on grass.  His dam Reunification won 12 sprints for the stable.

Admiral (2g Mossman – Reunification by West Quest) is a homebred for part-owner and long-time stable client Bruno Calabro.  He bought the mare when she was in foal to Mossman.

Mossman (Success Express) stands for a $19,800 (inc gst) service fee at Vinery.
