Admiral cleans up in George Adams

Admiral overhauled iron-horse The Cleaner for his fourth black-type victory in the LR George Adams Plate (1600m) in Launceston on Wednesday.

The Mossman three-year-old is paid up for the G1 Australian Guineas (1600m) at Flemington on March 7 and will ship to the mainland if his post-race recovery pleases trainer Barry Campbell.

Admiral has firmed from $51 to $21 for the Australia Guineas.  “His record should be a lot better,” Campbell claimed.  “He’s won 9 of 12 and it should be 11 from 12.

“We will give him three or four days off and if he thrives we will probably head to Melbourne.  He’s still very immature so it’s not the end of the world if we don’t go across.”

Admiral (3g Mossman – Reunification by West Quest) was named 2013-14 Tasmanian 2YO of the Year after wins in the LR Gold Sovereign Stakes, LR Elwick Stakes, Autumn 2YO Classic and Tasmanian Sires’ Produce Stakes.

He added more black-type in the LR Tasmanian Guineas before a last-start loss in the LR Thomas Lyons Stakes in Hobart.

Campbell has prepared a number of outstanding horses over the years including Caulfield Guineas winner Alfa, El Mirada and Sedation and rates Admiral right up there with those gallopers.
