Shamoline Warrior has been repatriated to cover his first Australian book at Carin Park in Victoria this year.

He will stand for a $3,500 fee in the south-west near Hamilton after five seasons at Bluegables Farm in NZ. “It’s the best place for him,” Carin Park’s Ron Daniels said. “Victoria was a happy hunting-ground during his racing career.”

To date, he has sired 29 to race with 15 winners topped by Nikita. A last-start Listed winner of the Warstep Stakes at Riccarton, she recently crossed the Tasman to link up with Darren Weir.

Shamoline Warrior is a son of Champion Darley sire Shamardal and was trained by Mark Kavanagh for an eye-catching win on debut in a Sale 2YO Maiden (1200m) in April 2009 before spelling ahead of a spring campaign.

He resumed with a first-up fourth behind Starspangledbanner in the LR Vain Stakes (1100m) and then showed enormous classic potential with a follow-up victory in the LR Super Impose Stakes (1700m).

He rocketed to favouritism for the G1 Victoria Derby with an outstanding win over Onemorenomore in the G3 Norman Robinson Stakes (2000m) but connections were dealt a body-blow when a chest infection ruled him out on the morning of the classic.

Kavanagh brought him back the following season but a torn ligament meant another six months on the sidelines. After further tests as an autumn four year-old, vets discovered he had been racing with a hairline pelvic fracture and the decision was made to retire him forthwith.

“Shamoline Warrior is physically a large, muscular, and big-boned stallion, in a similar mould to his half-brother Rebel Raider,” Daniels said. “And he will be a good out cross to the Danehill influenced broodmares.”
