Unencumbered – Sire’s demise devastates Three Bridges

Post-surgical complications have claimed the life of Testa Rossa sire Unencumbered.

Three Bridges Thoroughbreds proprietor Peter Liston said Unencumbered had been diagnosed with chondritis, a progressive inflammatory condition of the throat.  “He underwent surgery but passed away on Monday night.  As you would expect, we are devastated.

“Unencumbered was a special horse with such a great personality, everyone that has ever come into contact with him will miss him terribly.  He put Bjorn Baker on the map with a memorable win in the 2014 Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1200m) at the Gold Coast.

“He has been well supported by breeders, covering over 500 mares in his first four seasons.  No doubt Unencumbered will leave his mark at stud.”

There have been 18 individual 2yo runners from Unencumbered’s first crop so far this season – Soaring Eagle, Brave Jewel, Reason To Smile and Expedius have been placed at the provincials.
