Thorpedo sinks rivals in Suwanne River

Tammy the Torpedo took to the front and was never in danger while carving out a convincing victory in the G3 Suwannee River Stakes (1800m) at Gulfstream Park on Saturday.

“She responded getting out of the gates and took me all the way to the lead,” jockey Joel Rosario said.  “After that she just kept on going.”

The More Than Ready filly was coming off a Listed win in the LR Tropical Park Oaks (1700m) in December and has won 4 of her 7 career starts since a successful debut at Saratoga in August.  “I told Joel to take the lead if no one wanted to go to the front,” trainer Chad Brown explained.  “He rolled out decent fractions and the filly showed a lot of heart in the run home.”

The winner made $225,000 at the 2014 Ocala 2YO Sale when purchased by Long Lake Stable and Beacon Hill Thoroughbreds.  Her dam Search and Seizure (War Chant) is a half-sister to multiple stakes winner Criminologist.

More Than Ready has another black-type winning in waiting with Tom’s Ready.  The Dallas Stewart trained colt is primed for the G2 Risen Star (G2) in New Orleans on February 20 after firing a bullet 60s for 1000m on Saturday morning.

“It was very good work,” Stewart said.  “He was a little sharp early, but he finished strong and galloped out pretty good.  He came off the track bouncing and I think we’re where we need to be.”

Tom’s Ready was runner-up to Mo Tom in the Lecomte Stakes last time out on January 16 and they will clash again in the Risen Star.  “We know he’s a nice horse,” Stewart added.  “He needs to train like he’s that type of horse.  The game is stepping up and he has to step up with it.”

More Than Ready’s Melbourne filly All That I Know can also open her black-type account in the LR Strutt Stakes (2100m) at Elwick on Monday.  The Peter Moody trained three year-old is a last-start Cranbourne winner and has opened up at $4.60 in TAB pre-post markets for the fillies feature on Hobart Cup day.
