Trainer Mick Price will take Testa Rossa gelding Making Mayhem to town after winning the VOBIS Gold Eureka Stockade (1400m) at Ballarat on Saturday.

The sparingly-raced three year-old will be following in the footsteps of 2013 Eureka Stockade winner Trust In A Gust who graduated to Group 1 victories in the Sir Rupert Clark Stakes and Toorak Hcp last month.

Making Mayhem (3g Testa Rossa – Running Riot by Red Ransom) crossed from a wide gate to sit on the pace and had enough in reserve to defeat fast closers Profit Share and Durendal.  “He relaxed and travelled well,” jockey Chad Schofield said.  “He was facing the breeze on a windy day but held them off comfortably.”

A son of Vinery sire Testa Rossa, he had won on debut at Geelong in June and was racing second-up at Ballarat’s stand-alone meeting.  “He’s a lovely, sound horse and is on the right track,” Price explained.  “He’s got to go to the city anyway after winning this race.”

Making Mayhem collected $60,000 and a Super VOBIS owners’ incentive of $23,000 at Ballarat.  He was bred by the late John Hoare at Devon Park and is raced by his wife Betty.

The same connections won the VOBIS Gold Classic (1300m) at Swan Hill earlier this year with Testa Rossa filly Devon Princess.  She finished down the track behind her stablemate on Saturday.

“VOBIS Gold prizemoney is massive,” Price said.  “It’s a fantastic reason to be in Victoria racing horses – I should own one myself.”

Testa Rossa got the Eureka Stockade winner from Running Riot who won 7 races for the Hoare family.  The mare hails from the family of G1 Victoria Derby winner King’s High and she has a 2yo colt and a yearling filly by Vinery sire Congrats.
