String of new-season winners for FBAA

Federation of Bloodstock Agents Australia (FBAA) have supplied a string of winners for clients in the first weeks of the new season.

Regally bred colt Coonawarra (Snitzel) started the successful run at Kembla Grange winning second-up for Rosemont Stud on August 13.  He’s a three-quarter brother to G1 Spring Champion Stakes winner Hampton Court who is now shuttling between Spendthrift Farm’s Victorian and Kentucky farms.

Coonawarra was a big-ticket $600,000 buy for Gai Waterhouse and Blue Sky Bloodstock’s Julian Blaxland at the 2015 Inglis Easter yearling sale.

Coolcraft claimed the Hyland Race Colours Hcp (1250m) at Canterbury last Wednesday, August 17.  The Starcraft gelding had been purchased by DGR Thoroughbred Services at the 2013 Inglis Ready2Race Sale.

DGR’s Duncan Ramage paid $36,000 for the gelding on behalf of Kingstar Farm proprietor Matthew Sandblom.  He is a younger half-brother to Queensland stakes winner Brook Road (God’s Own).

Randwick Bloodstock’s Brett Howard weighed in with Pop Hero who won his third winter-campaign sprint at Belmont on Saturday.

The Perth galloper improved his strike-rate 7 wins in 27 starts for trainers Peter and Matt Giadresco.  He was bred and sold by Swettenham Stud and cost Howard $31,000 at the 2011 Inglis Great Southern Foal Sale.

Pop Hero (Kaphero) won over 1000 metres in wet and windy conditions at Belmont and he will continue racing over the minimum trip.  “I gave the horse next to no chance after he missed the jump,” Matt Giadresco admitted.  “But (Jarrad) Noske railed up and his strength at the finish was the difference.”

Django was another Belmont winner for FBAA on Saturday.  He was purchased by John Chalmers Bloodstock at the 2012 Perth Magic Millions Winter Sale for $10,000.  The Trade Fair chestnut has won two in a row at Belmont for owner Rick Hart and trainer Alan Matthews.

Sheamus Mills picked up a bargain for clients of Brisbane trainer Rob Heathcote with a $2,000 bid for Spirit Minded at the 2014 Inglis Sydney Winter Sale.  She won her fourth race at the Sunshine Coast this year in the Coastline Hcp (1400m) on Wednesday.

Spirit Minded is a 6yo Danasinga mare and her residual value continues to increase before retiring to stud.  She is out of an Australian-bred Galileo half-sister to G1 Hong Kong Mile winner Self Flit.

Laurel Oak Bloodstock was also on target at the Sunshine Coast midweek meeting with Tuscan Falls in the Parklands Tavern Hcp (1000m).   The Nicconi gelding had won at Newcastle and Kembla Grange before opening his account in Queensland.

A graduate of the 2013 Inglis Easter yearling sale, Tuscan Falls was targeted by Laurel Oak manager Louis Mihalyka after his dam’s younger half-sister Elite Falls on the G2 Reisling Stakes at Rosehill.

Urban Ruler looks a looks a promising type for Cranbourne trainer Greg Eurell after a front-running victory at Sandown-Hillside on Wednesday.  The Street Boss sprinter was a snip at $40,000 for Hancock Quality Bloodstock at the 2015 Inglis Classic Summer yearling sale.

Adrian Hancock also purchased last week’s Doomben winner Solar Burst.  He paid $95,000 for the Northern Meteor mare for Contract Racing at the 2013 Magic Millions National Yearling Sale.
