Champion Darley sire Street Cry has been euthanized after succumbing to complications relating to a neurological condition.  He was aged 16.

Street Cry had been ruled out of the current southern hemisphere season at Darley Kelvinside where he was slated to cover a full book at $110,000 (inc gst).  The ailment had left him severely lame on his right foreleg and unable to stand for long periods of time.

Street Cry has been a cornerstone of Sheikh Mohammed’s racing and breeding operations since a Group 1 triumph in the 2002 Dubai World Cup.  He was retired to stand at Darley’s Jonabell Farm in Kentucky in 2003 and has been a headline stallion with champions the calibre of Zenyatta and Street Sense.

The Irish-bred son of Machiavellian and Irish Oaks winner Helen Street made a similar impact in Australia siring G1 Caulfield Guineas winners in Long John and Whobegotyou and Melbourne Cup winner Shocking.

In all, Street Cry has sired 15 Group 1 winners and almost 150 stakes performers worldwide.  His legacy as a sire of sires is already well established with three of his sons siring Group 1 winners.
