Rocky brace for Embrace The Pain

Brilliant two year-old Embrace The Pain will travel to Brisbane after another effortless victory in Rockhampton on Friday.

Embrace The Pain (2g Gonski – Modest Meisie by Johannesburg) won the QTIS 2YO Classic (1100m) first-up by two lengths from Clateau (Beneteau) and Legal Procedure (Rothesay).  He had bolted in by 9 lengths on debut at Callaghan Park in February.

“He had a good blow after the race so there’s plenty of improvement left in the tank,” trainer Chris Maxfield said.  “I thought he may have hit the front too early today but he’s a pretty handy.”

The Gonski gelding cost managing part-owner Joe Ireland just $2,500 at the 2014 Magic Millions HIT Sale.  He is the second foal of Modest Meisie who retired a maiden after finishing second at Coleraine in August 2010.  She hails from the family of G1 Aqueduct Mile winner Quiet American (Fappiano).

“I will talk to owners before making any plans but, sure, I would definitely like to take him down south,” Maxfield said.  “I love him to bits.”

Gonski (Danehill) was bred at Swettenham Stud and was a Listed winner at Flemington.  He retired to Darley Stud and also stood at Oxford Park in Bunyip before transferring to China last year.
