Rock Hero retires to Lauriston Park Stud

Lauriston Park Stud has added Fastnet Rock stakes winner Rock Hero to its roster at Creighton’s Creek.

Rock Hero is the first foal of Galileo mare Gallant Tess who won the G2 Chelmsford Stakes, G2 Breeders’ Classic and LR Fernhill Hcp and he is one of 9 black-type winners bred on a Fastnet Rock – Sadler’s Wells cross.

Trained by David Payne, Rock Hero was a stunning six-length winner in track record time at Canterbury in September 2013 and he went right on with the job to claim the LR Dulcify Quality, again in track record time at Randwick.

Rock Hero sustained an injury next time out in the G1 Spring Champion Stakes and he returned from a summer spell to finish second in the G2 Autumn Stakes at Caulfield.

Unfortunately, that injury brought Rock Hero’s racing career to a premature end after just 9 starts for Payne and owner John Cordina.  “He’s a beautiful specimen who would have won a Group 1 over 1600m,” Payne said.  “I will be very surprised if he does not make a top stallion.”

Rock Hero will cover for a $4,950 (inc gst) fee at Lauriston Park.  Studmaster Chris Bakker is standing him in conjunction with LP Stallions manager Julie Nairn.
