Properantes set for Summer Carnival

In-form galloper Properantes will be spelled and set for a summer campaign after winning the Mitavite Trophy (1600m) on Saturday.

The Danehill Express gelding burst between runners in the straight to defeat Baytorio (Oratorio) by a head.  He has only been beaten once in his last five starts including a Listed victory in the Raconteur Stakes (1500m).

“I rate him a carnival prospect later this year,” trainer Colin Webster said at Belmont.  “That was a really good win – he needs galloping room and Troy (Turner) got him off the fence at the right time.”

Properantes (3g Danehill Express – Scala’s Quest by Marooned) was a $20,000 buy from Mungrup Stud at the 2013 Perth Magic Millions for part-owners Pete Dinnison, Paz Princi and Anthony Torre.  His dam has since foaled colts by Oratorio (Aus) and Red Hot Choices and was bred to Playing God last year.

Danehill Express (Danehill) is third on the Sunspeed sires’ ladder behind Blackfriars and Oratorio (Aus) and he will stand for a $4,400 (inc gst) fee at Mungrup Stud this year.
