Muscovado has won three of her last four starts for Gai Waterhouse and she’s only just getting started.

The daughter of Big Brown led all-the-way to win the Inglis Bonus Handicap (1600m) in front of a large contingent of owners at Randwick on Saturday.  She braved out a close finish to score by a half-head from Teofilo colt Kermadec.

Muscovado (3f Big Brown – On Type by Zeditave) won at Kembla Grange and Wyong earlier this season before grabbing some black-type when third in the LR Reginald Allen Stakes at Randwick on September 27.

Connections were considering a start in the G1 Flight Stakes before opting for an easier assignment with an autumn campaign in mind.  Gai has told the owners the filly will be much better next preparation.

Muscovado was a $120,000 buy for Star Thoroughbreds at the 2013 Gold Coast Magic Millions.  She has already paid that back for a ‘girls syndicate’ that includes Amy Vass, Rhonda Henderson, Christine Brady, Raelene Glasgow, Maureen McLeish, Linda Headland, Jan Henderson, Susan Healey, Lyn Polglase and Tracy Vogel

Star Thoroughbreds also have a Big Brown – Meriwether colt who cost $155,000 at the 2014 Inglis Classic yearling sale.  He is a half-brother to Silver Sands (Dubleo) who was a Listed winner of the Inglis 2YO Banner at Moonee Valley.

In the last month, Big Brown has sired winners like Frank Heavens (Morphettville) along with debutants Big Clipper (Randwick) and Neverland (WA) while Brown Energy won first-up by 6 lengths on Caulfield Cup day at Avoca.

Meanwhile in North America, the latest crop of Big Brown two year-olds are beginning to make an impact towards the back-end of their initial season.

Puca (2f Big Brown – Boat’s Ghost by Silver Ghost) was a brilliant 16 length maiden winner at Belmont on October 1.  She will now be set for the G3 Demoiselle Stakes at Aqueduct next month.  “We thought Big Brown would be a great cross for the mare and she ran a little like him today,” owner-breeder Jerry Crawford said.  “We’re very excited about the future.”

Big Brown was represented by his 11th stakes winner when Red Sashay scored a determined victory in the LR Our Dear Peggy Stakes (1600m) at Gulfstream Park on October 4.

Red Sashay (2f Big Brown – Sashay Away by Farma Way) was coming off an effortless restricted result to claim black-type fourth time out in Florida.  She prevailed in a close finish to win by a neck for Goodwood Racing

Big Brown (USA) is seventh on the North American third-season premiership with 59 winners (9 stakes winners) of $3.17 million this year.  He shuttles to Vinery for a $16,500 (inc gst) service fee.
