Lucky omen for G1 Emirates Stakes

Vinery sire Husson has a live chance for a Group 1 after Lucky Hussler sprinted away with the G3 Moonga Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on Saturday.

Trainer Darren Weir said Lucky Hussler would join stablemate Trust In A Gust in the G1 Emirates Stakes (1600m) at Flemington on November 8.  History is on his side as last year Boban won at Caulfield before winning the $1 million Emirates.

“The horse has been racing really well,” Weir stated.  “Last start, he got to the front but looked like he needed blinkers.  We’ve put them on at the right time and got the right result.

“He deserves a shot at The Emirates as he will get in well on the weights.”

Lucky Hussler (5g Husson – Talaq Dancer by Black Hawk) was initially trained on the Gold Coast by Kent Fleming and had posted Group 3 victories in the 2012 Vo Rogue Plate and 2013 George Moore Stakes while based in Queensland.

Standing well over 16 hands, Lucky Hussler was a $100,000 buy for managing part-owner Glen Makauskas at the 2011 Gold Coast Magic Millions.  His dam Talaq Dancer is an older half-sister to Australian Horse of the Year Weekend Hussler.

Husson and Weekend Hussler are both sons of champion sire Hussonet.

Vinery stands Husson for a $16,500 (inc gst) fee.  He was an undefeated Champion 2YO in Chile and was Australia’s Champion first-season sire by winners in 2011-12.
