Lonhro broke another record when three-year-old filly Cilla’s Choice became his 156th individual winner at Geelong on Thursday.
The previous Australian record of 155 winners was held by Bel Esprit and Lonhro’s long-term barn mate Commands who died last week. Fittingly, Commands featured in the record-breaking victory as the sire of her dam Constanza.
Cilla’s Choice easily accounted for Long Shadow – another daughter of Lonhro – in the Elephant & Castle Hotel Maiden (1000m).
Lonhro was Australia’s Champion stallion for the 2010-11 racing season and his 7 stakes winners this season include G1 winner Bounding and G1 placed sprinter Sessions. His two-year-old colt Kumaon and evergreen gelding Pinwheel were also placed at G1 level throughout the season.
Lonhro stands at Darley Kelvinside at a fee of $88,000 (inc gst) alongside his sons Denman ($33,000) and Benfica ($6,600).
