Husson Lightning sired his third city juvenile winner this season thanks to a thriller at Ascot on Wednesday.

Hadani Lad (2g Husson Lightning – Hadani by Serheed) was up for a fight when he faced the starter for the first time in the Westspeed Nursery (1000m).  Sitting outside the leader Joyful Hope (Discorsi) for the duration, he did best in a head-bobbing duel to score by a nose.

“I was happy at the 200 metre mark – he was travelling comfortably,” trainer Adam Durrant said.  “But I was nervous in the last 50 metres knowing he didn’t have a run under the belt.

“He’s our fastest two year-old by a long way at home and only knows one gear and that’s flat out.  He will make the grade if we can harness that speed – at the moment he’s mature in the body but not in the mind.”

Hadani Lad and fellow Ascot winners Lightning Run and Roebuck have helped Husson Lightning maintain a Top 5 spot on the Sunspeed 2YO table.

Hadani Lad was bred and sold by Bellbridge Park’s Siobhan Campbell for $67,500 at the 2013 Perth Magic Millions.  He’s a half-brother to four winners including the stakes placed sprinter Captain Woodrow.

Their dam Hadani is a half-sister to Perth flyer Let Go Thommo who travelled east to win the Group 1 Goodwood Hcp in Adelaide and three black-type races in Melbourne.

The mare foaled an Alfred Nobel colt last year but then missed to Heytesbury newcomer Ouqba.

Husson Lightning (Hussonet) was a precocious talent for Lindsay Park winning the G2 VRC Maribyrnong Plate and finishing second in the G2 Silver Slipper Stakes and Magic Millions 2YO Classic.

He has been on the market since Heytesbury Stud owner Paul Holmes a Court announced the closure of his thoroughbred breeding operations in January.
