Kuroshio shuttles to England

Darley Victorian stallion Kuroshio will shuttle to Overbury Stud in Gloucestershire following his initial southern book at Northwood Park.

Kuroshio (Exceed And Excel) covered over 100 mares at a $8,800 (inc gst) fee before flying out to England.  A Darley homebred, he won the G3 Blue Diamond Prelude at two and G2 McEwen Stakes at three.

Exceed And Excel got him from American-bred Gone West mare Arctic Drift.  They also combined to produce Believe’n’succeed (2008 Blue Diamond Prelude) and Agulhas (2013 Redelva Stakes).

Overbury Stud has been breeding winners in the Vale of Evesham since the 1940s.  Its greatest advertisement has been 1975 English Horse of the Year Grundy who won the Dewhurst Stakes, English Derby and the King George in course record time at Ascot.

Sheikh Mohammed has entrusted Overbury with stallions since the turn of the new millennium.  Champion stayer Kayf Tara retired there in 2001 and he was joined by Bertolini in 2002.

More recent arrivals from the Dubai ruler have been Champion Miler Proclamation (King’s Best) and Arc de Triomphe hero Sagamix, (Linamix).

Kuroshio will join fellow first-season sire Dunaden at Overbury in 2015.

“I’m thrilled Darley has entrusted Kuroshio to Overbury and I’m really looking forward to showing him off to breeders in the coming weeks,” stud manager Simon Sweeting said.  “He’s got the looks you would expect of an outstanding speed horse and his sire Exceed And Excel is one of the most coveted commercial stallions in Europe.”
