Khan connection targets Pluck at Karaka

Lang Lin and the Rider Horse Group have made a major impact in Australasia with classic colt Mongolian Khan and they returned to the Karaka 2YO Sale this week buying 25 horses including a $200,000 first-crop colt by Vinery sire Pluck.

Mongolian Khan is a Karaka graduate and won the G1 NZ Derby – G1 Australian Derby double earlier this year and then added the G1 Caulfield Cup last month.

“I’m here with a large group from China,” Mr Lang said.  “Some of the top horses are going to stay here in New Zealand, some are going to Australia and some are going to China.”

Their Pluck – Oomaroo colt was bred by Peter Arvanitis at Hillside Thoroughbreds in Victoria.  His dam is a Tale of the Cat half-sister to Sydney & Melbourne Group winning filly Thump (Red Ransom).

The $200,000 Karaka colt is Pluck’s highest-priced horse at public auction and he looked the part breezing 10.92s as part of the consignment from Regal Farm.

Pluck’s first crop are already showing up in barrier trials and two of his youngsters were placed in half-mile heats at Warwick Farm on Thursday.  Best Of Pluck is trained by Clarry Connors for John Singleton and Ray Hadley and she’s been nominated to debut at Warwick Farm next Wednesday.

Marrock was also prominent when runner-up in his first hit-out.  He’s a younger half-brother to Worth A Ransom (Red Ransom) who defeated Trust In A Gust in the VOBIS Gold Eldorado last year.

Pluck is a son of More Than Ready and won the 2010 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile at Churchill Downs.  He stands for a $9,900 (inc gst) fee at Vinery.
