Front-runner Rough Justice broke through for his first metro win in the Pancare Foundation Plate (1000m) at Caulfield on Saturday.

Rough Justice is from the initial crop of Eliza Park International resident Wanted and defied his more fancied rivals to score by three quarters of a length from Supido (Sebring) and  Zeletto (Snitzel) on Saturday.

“He’s not a big horse and was pretty fat first-up at Sandown,” trainer Matt Ellerton admitted.  “It’s a tough time of the year to win a race here but he had come on and I didn’t think he deserved to go out at 20-1.”

Rough Justice (3g Wanted – Hard Rider by Maroof) had also registered the first win for his sire at Terang in April.  He’s a half-brother to the stakes winners Utah Saints (God’s Own), Big Chill (Artie Schiller) and Hard Stride (Hard Spun).

Their NZ bred dam Hard Rider was purchased by Contract Racing owners David and Jenny Moodie for $45,000 in 2007.  They race her latest winner in partnership with Nick and Gayle Psaltis.

“Hard Rider has been an extraordinary broodmare,” Ellerton said.  “And now Rough Justice has held up his end of the deal.”

Wanted (Fastnet Rock) was a Group 1 winner of the VRC Newmarket Hcp at Flemington and stands for a $33,000 (inc gst) service fee at Eliza Park International.
