Gold-plated Sale for FBAA

The 2018 Gold Coast Magic Millions broke all records during Yearling Sales from Wednesday to Sunday through to the Summer Racehorse Sale on Tuesday.

Blue Sky Bloodstock topped Federation of Bloodstock Agents Australia (FBAA) members with a massive spend of $6.58 million in conjunction with Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott.  Blue Sky’s Julian Blaxland also topped the overall buyers’ table with the addition of another $2.34 million on behalf of other clients.

Astute Bloodstock’s Louis Le Metayer paid $600,000 for a Not a Single Doubt filly and $210,000 for a Deep Field filly.

The Not a Single Doubt – Scenes filly was offered by Attunga Stud on behalf of WA-based Darling View Thoroughbreds.  “She’s an outstanding filly although we definitely didn’t expect that sort of money,” Darling View’s Brent Atwell admitted.  “She will get every chance with Peter & Paul Snowden.”

Belmont Bloodstock’s Damon Gabbedy weighed in with $1.23 million on three fillies by Snitzel, I Am Invincible and Deep Field.  The Snitzel – Just Dancing filly from Arrowfield Stud was the most expensive at $575,000.

“I was very taken with her during the inspections,” said Gabbedy on Saturday night.  “She’s by a champion sire out of a Group 2 winning mare and her second dam is a Group 1 winner.  We went over our limit but she’s a beautiful type with a lot of length and scope.”

Boomer Bloodstock agent Craig Rounsefell bought 8 yearlings for various clients totalling $2.23 million and another 7 lots for $1.25 million on behalf of trainer Matt Cumani.

Rounsefell was under-bidder for the $2 million I Am Invincible colt that became the highest selling lot in a decade at the Magic Millions on Thursday.  He had better luck securing an I Am Invincible – Impressions filly for $525,000 on Saturday night.

Offered by Yarraman Park, she is a full-sister to city winners I Am Impressed (Sydney) and I’ll Decide (Adelaide).  “We had been waiting all week for her,” Rounsefell revealed.  “She was our favourite I Am Invincible filly in the Sale.”

DGR Thoroughbred Services had the final say for 7 yearlings amounting to $1.20 million with the bulk for Eagle Farm trainer Chris Anderson.  “Nice to build our relationship with Anderson Racing,” Duncan Ramage tweeted.  “We believe they’re quality major sale purchases.”

Top of the dial was a Dundeel – Opportunity colt from Arrowfield Stud at $280,000.  His dam is a Moonee Valley stakes winner by Redoute’s Choice who has foaled stakes performers Rifleman and Geromayo.

Sheamus Mills Bloodstock was active from Wednesday to Tuesday for Yulong Investments owner Zhang Yuesheng.

On Thursday, SMB paid $650,000 for a More Than Ready filly from Group 1 winner Allez Wonder to be trained by Ciaran Maher.  “She’s the best filly on the grounds,” Mills claimed.  “She’s an outstanding type with muscle on muscle.  A superb mover with a lovely attitude and, all in all, a faultless filly.”

Mills paid second-top price of $115,000 at the Summer Racehorse Sale on Tuesday for Godolphin 3yo Caffeine.  The Medaglia d’Oro filly is an unraced daughter of G2 Reisling Slipper winner Pure Energy.

Randwick Bloodstock bought 9 lots for $1.80 million with all bar one going to NSW-based breeders Mystery Downs.

The half-sister to Group 1 winning Kiwi mare Volpe Veloce by Darley sire Helmet was an obvious target from Rushton Park.  RBA agent Brett Howard bought their dam Bardego (Barathea) for $46,000 on behalf of Rushton Park owners David & Kayley Johnson at the 2015 Magic Millions National Sale.

“Very good filly,” Darley tweeted after she was knocked down for $200,000.  “Helmet can get a horse and we certainly know the mare can get a horse so there’s certainly no reason why she won’t be able to gallop.”

Hancock Quality Bloodstock bought colts by Shooting to Win ($210,000) and Time for War ($80,000) for Wally and George Daly under their company banner Yenrise P/L.  The Perth brothers bred Vega Magic to Group 1 victories in the 2017 Goodwood and Memsie Stakes.

Adrian Hancock also had a link with the Not A Single Doubt – Court Pastoral filly that made $425,000 on Friday.  He purchased the mare carrying that filly for $80,000 at the 2016 Magic Millions Mare Sale on behalf of long-time client Harry Perks.

The top buys from other FBAA members to sign sale sheets on the Gold Coast were;

Bluegrass Bloodstock’s Lenny Russo bought a $115,000 Dundeel colt from Canterbury winner Vocalise (Redoute’s Choice) for Dream Thoroughbreds manager Dave Azzopardi.  Bill Mitchell purchased an Exceed And Excel colt from French stakes-performer Procrastination (GB) for $200,000.

Peter Ford targeted a $150,000 Redoute’s Choice colt out of RL Magic Millions Guineas third Happy Hussy for Robbie Griffiths.  Laurel Oak agent Louis Mihalyka outlaid $220,000 for Newgate Farm’s I Am Invincible filly from Carrington Stakes winner No Looking Back.  Dave Mee of Pinhook Bloodstock paid $75,000 for a Dawn Approach colt from trans-Tasman winner Matabrahma.
