God Speed on Brook Road

Dynamic mare Brook Road will be set for more black-type after a comprehensive victory in the July Sprint (1100m) at Canterbury on Saturday.

The daughter of Greta West Stud stallion God’s Own flew home along the fence to blouse out Burbero and pacemaker Kencella by more than two lengths.  It increased her earnings to $278,850 and she’s far from finished according to trainer Kris Lees.

“She needs a solid tempo and I was happy to see them speed along,” Lees said.  “She just let down like you would want and there’s more in store for her.”

Brook Road (4m God’s Own – Cool Gal by Secret Savings) defeated classic filly Tinto to open her black-type account in Brisbane earlier this season and Lees is looking towards the G3 Toy Show Quality (1300m) at Randwick on August 22.

“I just let them go and she settled,” jockey Brenton Avdulla said after weighing in on Saturday.  “I got a great run up on the fence and didn’t lose any momentum.  She has a very sharp sprint when you need it.”

Brook Road was bred by Bart Cummings and is managed by Australian Bloodstock’s Luke Murrell and Jamie Lovett.   Her dam Cool Gal has a rising two year-old colt by Roman Emperor that was retained by Cummings after being withdrawn from the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale in February.

God’s Own (Redoute’s Choice) will stand for a $4,400 (inc gst) fee at Greta West Stud in 2015.
