Focus on All Too Hard foals at Gold Coast

Vinery freshman All Too Hard has been the focus of spirited competition from Australian and NZ buyers at the Magic Millions National Weanling Sale on the Gold Coast.

His first-crop foals averaged $180,000 during the Select Session on Sunday & Monday.  The median among the 7 lots that changed hands in the sale-ring was $200,000 off a service fee of $60,000 in 2013.

Belmont Bloodstock agent Damon Gabbedy is an All Too Hard fan and he paid $210,000 for Vinery’s colt from Indelible (NZ).  “I rated him the top foal of the whole sale,” Gabbedy said.  “He’s correct with plenty of size and is a lovely, loose walker – just like a panther.

“All Too Hard was a superstar and the Indelible colt is from a proper family.  I bought him for Perth businessman Ted Hodgkinson and he will be trained by Peter Moody.”

New Zealand pin-hookers were also on the Gold Coast to source likely types for the 2016 Karaka yearling sale and at least two All Too Hard colts are heading across the Tasman.

Lyndhurst Farm owner Mark Treweek spent $160,000 for an All Too Hard – Kalamata colt from Vinery.  “It’s a lot of money but he’s a great mover with lots of character,” Treweek explained.  “I was very impressed with the All Too Hard foals and our colt is a strong type with a big rear-end.”

Lyndhurst Farm has been a leading player at the NZB National yearling sale for the last decade and the Cambridge nursery topped this year’s edition with a Fastnet Rock filly that changed hands for $800,000.

Mark Devcich is another Kiwi pin-hooker confident of a major mark-up with All Too Hard at Karaka next year.  He outlaid $160,000 for Baramul Stud’s half-brother to G2 Theo Marks Stakes winner Riva de Lago on Monday.

Magic Millions commences its National Broodmare Sale on Wednesday and there are 17 in the catalogue that were covered by All Too Hard last year.   Mares with a PPT to the Vinery stallion averaged $352,000 at the 2014 National Sale.

Vinery will stand All Too Hard for a $55,000 (inc gst) service fee in 2015.
