First winner by Fighting Sun

Platinum Mam’selle has opened her winning account and that of Sun Stud freshman Fighting Sun in the Kilbirnie Sports Premier (1200m) at Trentham.

Saddled by Lisa Latta on Saturday, the 2yo filly finished with a sustained burst that impressed her trainer and winning jockey Mark Du Plessis.  She had flashed home first-up at Awapuni last month after losing ground at the start.

“She’s a pretty easy filly to train and she’s learnt a lot,” Latta commented.  “On today’s run, I think she’s ready to try black type.”

Among the options are the G3 Phoenix Park 2YO Classic at New Plymouth on February 3 and G1 Manawatu Sires’ Produce Stakes at Awapuni on March 31.

Platinum Mam’selle (2f Fighting Sun – Miss Fascination by Redoute’s Choice) was purchased by Beamish Bloodstock for $80,000 at the 2017 Adelaide Magic Millions on behalf of Lincoln Farms.  Her second-dam Bibury Flying (Zafonic) was a Listed winner of the Radley Stakes at Newbury and Flame Of Tara Stakes at the Curragh.

“She did things well today and there’s a lot of upside,” Du Plessis added.  “She picked up quickly when I asked her to go and will be much better over further.

Fighting Sun (Northern Meteor) was unbeaten in both starts at two before an injury ended his career.  He retired to Sun Stud in Victoria and was very popular last year covering 143 mares at a fee of $13,750.
