First Sunspeed stakes winner by Alfred Nobel

Progressive filly Showy Chloe has scored an overdue black-type victory in the G3 WA Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) at Ascot.

The Alfred Nobel filly had been placed in the G2 Karrakatta Plate, G3 Gimcrack Stakes and LR Supremacy Stakes for Kingston Thoroughbreds and trainer Jason Pateman before the breakthrough on Saturday.

Showy Chloe (2f Alfred Nobel – Special Kiseki by Special Bond) settled wide but with cover before accelerating in the straight to score by more than four lengths over Saxophonist (Saxon) and Black Cuban (Blackfriars).

“We kept her fresh after the Karrakatta but I didn’t think she would win by that far,” Pateman said.  “It’s good when they kick away like that.  She will spell now and come back next season for the Champion Fillies.

“The Karrakatta proved Lucky Street is in a different league to the rest of our two year-olds but she showed she’s the second best today.”

Showy Chloe is the first Australian winner by Alfred Nobel who is now permanently based at Lynward Park in Bullsbrook after shuttling from Coolmore Stud for three years.  He sired a winning double in England last week with Peace Prize (Nottingham) and Gin In The Inn (Leicester).

His Sunspeed filly is a half-sister to LR Perth Stakes winner El Rijes (Eternity Range) and their dam has a filly foal by Universal Ruler.
