Gonski mare Siwa Lady completed a hat-trick and notched the first black-type winner for her sire in the Oakbank Stakes (1100m) on Saturday.

Siwa Lady jumped straight to the front and controlled the feature sprint at the famous Easter jumps meeting.  “She showed really good speed early and just dragged me up the hill,” Joe Bowditch said.  “I let her slide coming down the hill and away she went.

“I think she would be better on a flatter track.  There was a little bit of sting out of the ground and I think she would probably be better on top of the ground.”

Bowditch was winning the Oakbank Stakes for the third time following Charleston Gold (Geiger Counter) in 1999 and Maybe McLaren (Secret Savings) in 2004.

Siwa Lady (5m Gonski – Siwa by Green Desert) was coming off back-to-back wins at Moonee Valley before trainer Darren Weir sent her across the border.  She is from a British-bred half-sister to the dam of Longchamp Group 1 winner Laverock (Octagonal).

Gonski (Danehill) was raced by Sheikh Mohammed and rated within four points of champion colt Stratum after a resounding Rosehill juvenile victory in 2004-05.  He trained on at three to win the LR Concept Sports Stakes at Flemington.

Oxford Park owner Michael Howard stood Gonski for a $4,400 (inc gst) service fee in his second season at the Bunyip stud last year.
