First northern success for Sepoy

Speedy filly Kilmah has seen off a smart nursery field at Newmarket to notch the first win for Sepoy in the northern hemisphere.

The Darley shuttler had opened his account in Australia when She’s Positive won the Magic Millions Adelaide 2YO Classic (1200m) in March.

Kilmah missed the break but was soon in touch and moved clear readily to win the Chemtest Novice Stakes (1200m) against more experienced fillies on Friday.  Bred by Mildmay Bloodstock, she is out of stakes-winning Act One mare Perfect Star who has a yearling colt by fellow Darley shuttler Helmet.

Trainer Mark Johnston found the winner for 32,000gns (AUD 66,305) in Book 1 of the 2015 Tattersalls October Yearling Sale.

Sepoy (Elusive Quality) was a Group 1 winner of the Blue Diamond, Golden Slipper, Manikato Stakes and Coolmore Stud Stakes.  He is currently standing a fourth season at Darley’s Dalham Hall Stud in Newmarket and is due to be represented by 91 two-year-olds this year.

He stands at Darley Kelvinside at a fee of $33,000 (inc gst).
