First foal for Black Caviar

World champion mare Black Caviar has foaled a filly by Darley sire Exceed And Excel.

Managing owner Neil Werrett was there for the birth in the Hunter Valley and said it all went smoothly.  “She did it all very naturally with very little assistance,” Werrett said.  “The filly is outstanding with two small white socks and a bit of white across the head.

“Black Caviar took to the foal straightaway and then the first thing she wanted to do afterwards was eat.”

The undefeated Victorian-bred mare was retired last year after an unbeaten 25 start career including 15 at Group 1 level.

Black Caviar’s first foal will almost certainly be retained to race instead of going through the yearling sales.  Werrett said an announcement regarding her next mate would be made shortly.
