Fighting winner for Gold Front

Onadowntowntrain completed a winning week for Gold Front Thoroughbreds trainer Brent Albuino in the Crown Metropol Hcp (1000m) on Saturday.

The Exceed And Excel flyer had closed the Belmont season on a winning note and he buttered up a week later when racing resumed at Ascot.  That book-ended a provincial double by stablemates Regency and Danaura at Northam last Wednesday.

Onadowntowntrain (4g Exceed And Excel – I’mtoogoodtobetrue by Good And Tough) sat outside Snitzel stallion Windswept and they cleared out in two-horse war for the final furlong.

“That was a tough win – the runner-up is decent,” Albuino said.  “He didn’t get his own way in front so it was pleasing to see him settle down for the fight.  There are more 1000 metres coming up so we won’t extend him for the time being.”

Onadowntowntrain is doing a good job for the Gingin team with 4 wins from 10 starts and earnings over $113,000.  He had failed to find a buyer at the 2012 Inglis Easter yearling sale when offered by Willow Park.

Regency (4g Myboycharlie – Private by Encosta de Lago) will join him at Ascot after a sizzling first-up victory at Northam.  He dropped a field of maidens in cavalier style for Albuino and Gold Front owners Alan and Sue Olive.

Regency was a $100,000 buy from Turangga Farm at the 2012 Gold Coast Magic Millions.  He’s from an unraced sister to stakes winners Tully Dane (Danehill) and Mygoodgrace (Royal Academy).

Danaura (5g Danzero – Gaelic Aura by Clear Choice) cost $75,000 at the 2011 Inglis Classic Sale and will return to the Avon Valley this Sunday.  He was a very impressive winner up there last week in preparation for the $45,000 Northam Challenge Series Final (1400m).
