Mungrup Stud shuttler Dick Turpin (Ire) sired the first two year-old winner from his second English crop on Monday.

Dr. Julius No was facing the starter second-up in the Ragdale Stakes (1200m) at Leicester and made all the running to score by more than two lengths.  “He had finished fourth first time at Windsor,” trainer Ralph Beckett said.  “That was a good effort and we were hopeful of finding a maiden for him before too long.”

The colt is raced by Chelsea Thoroughbreds and is named after the villain in the 1962 James Bond movie Dr. No.

Dick Turpin shuttles from the English National Stud to WA and his first northern crop was headed by Receding Waves who won three nurseries last year.  He was also runner up in the Newmarket October Stakes before being sold to race in Qatar.

Dr. Julius No (2c Dick Turpin – Royal Assent by Royal Applause) cost the equivalent of AUD 63,520 in August last year.  He’s from a half-sister to G3 Badener Meile winner Banknote (Zafonic) and hails from the famous Highclere family.

Dick Turpin sired his first Australian winner earlier this season when Guest Express scored a front-running victory at Ascot for trainer Simon Miller.  Mungrup Stud will stand him for an $8,800 (inc gst) fee this year.
