Demon demolishes G3 Victoria Hcp

Brisbane’s winter carnival is on the radar for Sistine Demon after his runaway victory in the G3 Victoria Hcp (1400m).

The progressive son of Vinery sire Excites flew the coop at Caulfield and blitzed his rivals by six lengths in Melbourne’s feature race on Easter Saturday.

Sistine Demon (4g Excites – Famous Painter by Peintre Celebre) has won 7 of his last 8 starts and the only hiccup was a half-neck second in the LR Kilmore Cup earlier this year.  “He’s ticking along beautifully and this is the best I’ve ever had him,” trainer Andrew Knoblet said.  “I spruiked him after his work on Tuesday morning – it was terrific.

“He’s genuine alright and makes his own luck in the lead.  We will look for a suitable race in Brisbane as long as it doesn’t interfere with the spring carnival.  He’s been up for a while but thrives on racing.”

After firming from $4.20 to start a $3.30 favourite, Sistine Demon gave apprentice Jamie Kah the biggest win of her career.  “He’s improving all the time,” Kah explained.  “He jumped straight to the front and the result was never in doubt.”

Sistine Demon had broken through for his first black-type victory in the LR Super Saturday Stakes at Flemington on March 8.  He is raced by West Australian breeder Warren Gellard with Michael French and Darren Thomas and has now earned over $414,800.

Gellard bred him from Famous Painter who is an unraced daughter of Flemington stakes winner Rancheetah (Rancher).  The mare has been a regular visitor to Vinery sires in recent years and has a yearling filly by Big Brown and a weanling colt by Testa Rossa.

Excites (Danewin) was a Group 1 winner of the 2006 AJC Sires’ Produce Stakes and has sired 35 winners of 57 races this season for prizemoney of $1.51 million.  He stood at Vinery for a $6,600 (inc gst) service fee last year.
