Defcon retires to Eureka Stud

Group 3 winning sprinter Defcon has been retired to stand at Eureka Stud.

Defcon is sure to be popular in Queensland with a powerful, speed physique to match his blistering juvenile speed that befits a son of champion sprinter Choisir.

“In terms of natural ability, Defcon was up there with the very best of our two year-olds,” trainer Peter Snowden said.  “He had real talent.”

Defcon (Choisir – Nuclear Force by Encosta de Lago) recorded brilliant performances as a 2yo winning the G3 Black Opal Stakes (1200m) and running second in both the G2 Silver Slipper Stakes (1100m) and G3 Canonbury Stakes (1100m).

He returned at three to take out the G3 McNeil Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield before bowing out with a below-par performance in the G2 Euclase Stakes at Morphettville on May 6.

Bred in the Yarra Valley by Gleneagles Stud owner Kevan Wacey, he was purchased for $340,000 by James Harron Bloodstock at the 2015 Inglis Melbourne Premier Sale.  “Our ownership group have elected to retain the majority of Defcon,” Harron said.  “We will be getting right behind him in the next phase of his career.”

Eureka studmaster Scott McAlpine will stand Defcon at an $8,800 (inc gst) service fee.
