Day 2 Inglis Melbourne Premier – Record pace continues at Oaklands

The Inglis Melbourne Premier Sale kept up its record setting pace on Monday with spirited bidding leading to an increased average price of $98,873 after Day 2.

A real highlight of the sale’s growth is the number of lots sold for $150,000 or more by the end of Day 2.  It has risen from 26 in 2013 to 38 last year and up to 56 in 2015.

Supporting this progression is the strength and increasing popularity of the Blue Riband session which realised a record average of $135,488 for 41 lots sold.

“The strength of this year’s sale is comparing very favourably to previous years and we are confident that this trend will continue through to its conclusion,” Inglis Victorian Director Peter Heagney said.  “The popularity of the Blue Riband session in particular shows there is a real niche for the classic types of horses.”

Top price on Day 2 was a Foxwedge colt from Group 1 performer Glowlamp (Encosta de Lago) that cost $420,000.  Offered from the draft of Newgate Farm the colt was bought by NSW trainer Paul Perry.

Snitzel leads the sire table by aggregate having sold 15 of his progeny for $1.86 million.  Fastnet Rock is hot on his heels making $1.74 million over the first two days of the sale.

Foxwedge is the leading first-season sire averaging $187,500 ahead of Sepoy ($158,000).  The latter had a Rosemont Stud filly from Jesse’s Girl (Choisir) sell to Clinton McDonald for $350,000.

The Blue Riband Session for yearlings bred and conformed to excel over middle and staying distances was again buoyant with a top price of $310,000 for a Redoute’s Choice – Possessed colt bought by Mike de Kock.

Day 3 of the auction starts at 10:30am on Tuesday with Lots 393 to 623 to be offered.
