Coolmore Stud transfers Declaration of War

Coolmore Stud will relocate Declaration of War to Ashford Stud in Kentucky for the 2015 northern breeding season.

Declaration of War (USA) stood his first season at Coolmore’s Irish headquarters for a 40,000 euros fee earlier this year and proved extremely popular with European breeders.  He is currently serving an initial southern book in the Hunter Valley at $27,500 (inc gst).

Unbeaten as a two-year-old in France for Jean-Claude Rouget, the War Front colt joined Aidan O’Brien last year for Group 1 victories in the Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot and Juddmonte International at York.

He bowed out with a nose and a neck third in the Breeders’ Cup Classic behind Mucho Macho Man and Will Take Charge.

“Declaration of War has a similar profile to Giant’s Causeway who also joined us after standing a single season in Ireland,” Ashford manager Dermot Ryan said.  “They’re by top sires out of daughters of Rahy from great American families.

“They were both unbeaten at two, both won some of Britain’s key Group 1 races and both ran incredible races on their first starts on traditional dirt in the Breeders’ Cup Classic.

“Declaration of War was one of the best yearlings ever raised here on the farm and we’re delighted to be getting him back.”
