Congrats filly wins New York Oaks

Temper Mint Patty put a strong field of fillies to the sword in the LR New York Oaks (1700m) on Friday.

The Congrats filly romped in by more than 9 lengths as a long odds-on favourite at Finger Lakes to increase her earnings to $275,000.

Temper Mint Patty (3f Congrats – His Beauty by Adcat) takes no prisoners when she’s in the mood – her first stakes victory was a 13 length runaway in the LR Joseph Gimma Stakes (1400m) at Belmont Park in September.

A $95,000 price-tag at the 2014 Fasig-Tipton 2YO Florida Sale has turned out to be a bargain for owner Mark Stanley.  “She’s a pretty filly, so we felt like she was worth the money,” he said.  “I like Congrats a lot and this filly has been a lot of fun.”

Temper Mint Patty’s dam His Beauty was a Listed winner of the Jena Jena Stakes at Belmont.  A Saratoga stakes race is the next target – she had won her maiden on debut at last year’s iconic summer meet.

Congrats (A P Indy) will cover his latest southern book for a $19,800 (inc gst) fee at Vinery this year.
