Colic claims Southwestern Heat

Former Queensland shuttler Southwestern Heat (USA) has died at A&A Ranch in New Mexico.

Studmaster Fred Alexander reported the 13 year-old stallion succumbed to colic.  He has sired 34 winners from 5 crops in the USA led by stakes winner Bryn’s Fancy Pants.

A son of Gone West and Champion 3YO Filly Xtra Heat, he was a $600,000 graduate from the Keeneland September Yearling Sale and won four races including the LR Sonny Hine Stakes (1200m) at Laurel Park.

Southwestern Heat encountered problems during a sole southern season at Willowbend Stud in 2009.  From just 5 live foals he sired the winners Western Maizcay and Hot Aunty.
