Chalmers buys half-brother to Showy Chloe

John Chalmers led Federation of Bloodstock Agents Australia (FBAA) with turnover of $402,000 at the Perth Magic Millions.

Chalmers bought 7 lots topped by the Demerit – Special Kiseki colt from Taunton Vale that made $145,000 on Monday.  He is a half-brother to stakes winners Showy Chloe (G3 WA Sires Produce Stakes) and El Rijes (LR Perth Stakes).

On Tuesday, Chalmers bid $80,000 for a Star Witness colt and a Helmet filly.  The latter is from a family with 15 stakes winners below the second-dam.

Blue Sky Bloodstock continued its onslaught at the majors for Aquis Farm with $150,000 for a Choisir filly from former Perth star For Your Eyes Only.  She was offered by Gold Front Thoroughbreds and was the most expensive filly on Tuesday.

“She looks a sharp sort and will be trained by Gary Portelli,” Blue Sky’s Julian Blaxland said.  “Gary and I both thought she looked a really early type that would suited in a race like the Gimcrack Stakes.

“I thought the market was strong on the good horses but was soft in parts.  There’s a lot of new stallions over here but the nice horses are always well found.  We were only really looking at a few lots but we were beaten on two and then were able to secure that filly which was great.”

Commercial Bloodstock’s Noel Carter appeared on 10 middle-market sale sheets over the two-day auction.  Topping his shopping list was the $50,000 Oratorio – Just As Beautiful colt from Mungrup Stud.

The colt is a half-brother to G2 Pago Pago Stakes winner Salade and the dam of Melbourne stakes winners Prized Icon (G1 Victoria Derby) and Matras (G3 Tesio Stakes).

Carter also bought first-crop yearlings by Playing God (3), Galah and My Admiration.  The third Playing God from Namerik Thoroughbreds is a half-sister to Malaysian stakes winner Mr Armstrong.

Boomer Bloodstock paid $80,000 for a War Chant filly and spent another $105,000 on behalf of trainer Lindsey Smith for a City Place filly and Denman colt.

Belmont Bloodstock’s Damon Gabbedy bought a Written Tycoon – More Black Magic filly towards the end of Tuesday’s session for $110,000.  She’s from the immediate family of Oakland Park’s G1 Railway Stakes winner Covertly.

Gabbedy purchased Beauty World – the dam of last week’s LR Talindert Stakes winner Ducimus – for Oakland Park owner Neville Duncan at the 2012 Inglis Easter Broodmare Sale.  The Team Hawkes colt will attempt to maintain his unbeaten record in the G1 Blue Diamond Stakes this Saturday.

Beauty World cost $50,000 and looked a rock-bottom buy when Duncan sold Ducimus for $700,000 at last year’s Melbourne Premier yearling sale.
