Supremely talented Husson gelding Looks Like The Cat has been sold to Hong Kong and will do his future racing under the care of leading local trainer Casper Fownes.

Looks Like The Cat (3g Husson – Fiery Dee by Fraar) has raced 7 times for a 2YO win in Brisbane and seconds in the G2 VRC Danehill Stakes, G2 BRC Champagne Classic and G3 MRC Caufield Guineas Prelude.  He was also third home in the G1 BRC J J Atkins Stakes and G2 BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes.

Managing owner Troy Schmidt said he had mixed emotions about the sale while the watching flashy chestnut being loaded on to a float at his River Junction Farm in Gympie.  “We are breeders and we have got to be seen to be sellers,” he said.  “The offer was too good to refuse.

“We’ve got a half-sister to him by Murtajill going through the Magic Millions in January.  We have a full sister to him on the ground and his dam Fiery Dee is positive to Snitzel.  We have also purchased Fiery Dee’s sister.”

Looks Like The Cat is a son of Vinery sire Husson and Schmidt had originally purchased him as a foal for $60,000.  Months later, he bought the dam for $10,000.

Trainer Tony Gollan has prepared Group 1 winners Spirit Of Boom and Temple Of Boom but said Looks Like The Cat was potentially the best horse he has put a saddle on.  “It’s disappointing to lose a horse of his calibre but I respect the owner’s decision,” he said.  “There had been a fair few offers on the table at the conclusion of the Brisbane winter carnival but they were knocked back.

“They came again at the end of his spring campaign and it was decided to take the bird in the hand rather than chasing two in the bush.  It’s hard to compete against the money being offered and it’s easy to see why an owner would cash in.”
