Capitalist cashes in for Written Tycoon

Woodside Park stallion Written Tycoon produced a star of the future on Saturday when his flashy colt Capitalist was an eye-catching winner of the LR Breeders’ Plate (1000m) at Randwick.

Sent off the $1.65 favourite after a brilliant barrier trial, Capitalist travelled on the bit behind the leaders before accelerating to a three-length lead in the straight.  “We’re entitled to be excited,” trainer Peter Snowden said.  “He looked the winner a long way out and I was very, very impressed with the performance.”

Capitalist (2c Written Tycoon – Kitalpha by Fusaichi Pegasus) is raced by James Harron Bloodstock and was a $165,000 purchase from Daandine Stud at this year’s Gold Coast Magic Millions.

He is the 12th stakes winner by Written Tycoon who stands for a $19,800 (inc gst) fee at Woodside Park.

Capitalist will be set for the $2 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1200m) at the Gold Coast on January 9.  “He’s very professional and has got a great demeanour,” jockey Blake Shinn added.  “He just takes everything in his stride, he’s not overawed by anything.”

Written Tycoon was standing at Eliza Park’s base in Queensland when Capitalist was conceived in 2012.  His dam Kitalpha (NZ) descends from 1991 Magic Millions 2YO Classic winner Bold Promise but, in an unfortunate turn of events, she succumbed to a serious bout of colic a day before Breeders’ Plate.

Dieters made it a juvenile double for Written Tycoon with a barrier-to-box victory in the Coca Cola Amatil Plate (1050m) at Doomben on Saturday. The Jason McLachlan trained colt was a $100,000 buy for Slade Bloodstock at the Gold Coast Magic Millions.
