Campbell confirms Special status in Tassie

Trainer Barry Campbell reaffirmed his status as ‘King of the 2YOs’ in Tasmania when Bianconi youngster Specialist won Hobart’s first juvenile race of the season on Sunday.

Campbell saddled up the $2.60 favourite Siorca but it was his $18 stablemate that did best on debut in the Gateway 2YO Plate (900m).

Specialist (2g Bianconi – Aden by Rory’s Jester) showed good early speed from a wide gate and then found another gear in the straight to score by over a length from Gee Gees Top Notch (Wordsmith) and Siorca (Sharkbite).

“He is a very nice horse and ready-made for two-year-old racing,” Campbell said.  “I think Specialist and Siorca will win their share of races and the best part is we have a few more at home that go just as well.”

Owner-breeder Craig Hodge races Specialist and he also won five races with the gelding’s older brother Bionic Star.  Their dam Aden was a Lindsay Park homebred and she is now based at Rosemont Stud.

Bianconi (USA) filled out a winning treble on Sunday when Shake It Shakira and Thebarwonprince doubled up at Donald.  He is currently covering his first book at Ridgeview Park in Muskerry East and studmaster Phil Sloane can be contacted for further information on (03) 5433 6306.
