Barakey’s younger half-brother Baraki Beats signed off his second campaign with another determined victory at Belmont on Wednesday.

The four year-old son of Rangeview Park stallion So Secret led the field in the Amelia Park Hcp (1200m) and, despite racing greenly in the straight, held off several challengers to score by a length from the favourite Kaapander (McFlirt).

“He’s a nice horse but is never going to be as good as Barakey,” jockey Ryan Hill said.  “He’s got a few quirks and you’ve got to work with him instead of fighting him.

“I think Jim (Taylor) will send him for a break now and he should come back and get out to a mile as long as his racing manners improve in the meantime.”

Baraki Beats (4g So Secret – Dance Hi by Ideal Planet) is a homebred for Aristos Mihalopoulos & Terry Zeppos and the latest win was his third in five starts this time in.  He failed to win in six starts during an initial preparation last year.

Besides Barakey (Key Business), he is also a half-brother LR Belmont Oaks winner Ifestio (Key Business) and G3 Champion Fillies winner Hi On Love (Love a Dane).  Their dam Dance Hi was pensioned last year.

Mihalopoulos and Zeppos retired Barakey after an unplaced finish in the LR Northam Stakes (1100m) in May.  He won 13 times in just 17 starts for earnings of $864,700 and reached a career-high with a Group 1 victory in the 2012 Winterbottom Stakes at Ascot.

So Secret (Danetime) stands for a $3,300 (inc gst) service fee at Rangeview Stud in Burekup.  Owners Rob and Jody Gray will offer a So Secret three-quarter brother-in-blood to Baraki Beats at the 2016 Perth Magic Millions yearling sale.
