Adelaide raider Gets The Nod

Lloyd Kennewell has labelled Get The Nod as the best horse he’s ever trained ahead of the G1 Caulfield Guineas in October.

Get The Nod (3g U S Ranger – Silent Cash by Secret Savings) dented some high-profile reputations at double-figures in the LR Vain Stakes (1100m) on Saturday.  “He’s an absolute star,” Kennewell said.  “I don’t say that lightly.  That’s why I put him away after he won first-up at Morphettville in March.”

The Adelaide gelding produced a powerful finish from off the speed to defeat Stingray (Kaphero) by over a length at Caulfield.  “I’ve known for a long time he’s a serious horse but kept quiet so the owners could get on first,” Kennewell explained.  “I think he’s good enough for the Caulfield Guineas.”

Get The Nod is by former Victorian shuttler U S Ranger (Danzig).  Independent Stallions owner Mike Becker brought him out here for a one-off season in 2010 as a stand-in for Artie Schiller.

Becker bred and sold the Vain Stakes winner for $18,000 at the 2013 Inglis Classic Summer yearling sale.  His dam is a half-sister to G2 AJC Roman Consul Stakes runner-up Silent But Deadly (Choisir).

Silent Cash has a 2yo filly by Artie Schiller that made $23,000 at the 2014 Inglis VOBIS Gold Sale in April.  She also has a yearling filly by Al Samer.
